The Real Intro
My name is Erika Matkovich.
But if you've been anywhere in Hamilton's event scene for the last few years, you probably know me as “Matko.”
I'm a self-taught photographer based in Hamilton, Ontario — and I've spent the last few years building a reputation doing exactly what I love: showing up to the events, organizations, and moments that matter most to this city, and making sure they're documented in a way that actually does them justice.
I've shot City of Hamilton and YWCA Hamilton. Gala dinners and pitch competitions. Fashion shows and award ceremonies. Community launches and corporate milestone events. And every single time, my job is the same: disappear into the room, read the energy, and come back with a gallery that makes people go, 'how did they get that shot?'
I photograph people because I'm wired to notice the things everyone else rushes past.
The way someone's face changes when they hear their name called. The handshake that turns into a real laugh. The quiet moment between the speaker leaving the stage and the room erupting.
Those are the shots that matter. And they don't happen by accident — they happen because I'm already watching for them.
Photography, for me, isn't just documentation. It's how I honour the people and the community I'm lucky enough to work with.
This city is my home.
That's not a tagline — it's why I do what I do.
Hamilton has given me a sense of belonging that I don't take lightly. The community here — the people who build things, run events, support each other, and show up — is genuinely unlike anywhere else. And being the photographer that documents that community? That's not just a job. That's a privilege.

What it's actually like to work with me.
I come to every event or session fully prepared. Key shots are mapped in advance. The brief has been reviewed. The logistics are understood. From arrival through delivery, my role is to handle the photography so you can focus on everything else.
For events: 10 sneak peek images within 12 hours, full gallery within 5 business days.
For brand sessions: proofing gallery within 5 business days, final gallery within 10 business days of selections.
My editing style is colourful, bold, and true to life. Honest documentation — with skill applied to every frame.
Galleries are delivered within one week. I shoot with an eye for clean, vibrant, real imagery— no over-filtered, over-posed, overly-produced content that looks like it could've come from anyone. You'll be able to tell a Matko photo from across a room.
I'm not for everyone. And that's by design.
I work best with clients who know what they want, trust me to get it, and don't need me to work around 47 layers of approval. If you're an event coordinator, a marketing manager, or a business owner who values quality and efficiency over micromanagement, we'll get along great.
If you need someone to stand in one spot and wait for direction all night — I'm probably not your person. And honestly? That's okay.
